The relay is an elektronno-operated switch which usually carries out following functions:
– Switches the big currents дистанционно from a chain in which this current flows, allowing to use more thin wires and contacts of switches in the basic chain;
– Unlike the mechanical switch having one operating input, can carry out switching on several operating inputs;
– The timer and by that sets an interval of work of screen wipers.
If the electric chain operated the relay, fails, and a cause of defect, probably, is the relay, listen to relay work at the included system. If the relay regularly works, you should hear click at its inclusion. If the relay is serviceable, the cause of defect is concluded in elements or connecting wires. If the relay does not work, it means that it does not receive the basic power supplies or an operating impulse, or the relay is faulty.

).

Some specialised relays are located separately or in separate blocks under the panel of devices and in a motor compartment (
fig. 15.10).

On cars four types of the relay are used: with constantly closed or opened contacts and switched contacts (
fig. 15.11,
15.12). On cases of some relays the electric scheme of the relay with numbers of contacts is resulted.

For relay check connect an ohmmeter to its contacts, thus the ohmmeter should show chain rupture (
fig. 15.13). Then one additional wire connect contact of a winding of the relay to "weight", and the second additional wire connect the second contact of a winding of the relay to the positive plug of the accumulator, thus the relay should join to (click) and the ohmmeter should show short circuit (resistance 0 Ohm). Otherwise the relay is faulty also it it is necessary to replace.
