THE PREVENTION
At opening of a cover of a radiator on the hot engine be careful, as leaving steams can lead to strong burns. Close a radiator cover a thick layer of a fabric and slowly turn away a cover to a hissing sound. After the hissing termination slowly turn on and uncover a radiator.

Check of the thermostat established on the car
Before thermostat check check up level of a cooling liquid, a tension of a belt of a drive of the water pump and working capacity of the gauge of temperature.
If after start of the cold engine it gets warm very long, probably, the thermostat is constantly opened and the cooling liquid circulates on the big circle. In this case replace the thermostat.
If the engine overheats, a hand check up temperature of the bottom hose of a radiator. If the hose cold, probably, the thermostat is constantly closed and the cooling liquid constantly circulates on a small circle. In this case also replace the thermostat.
If the bottom hose of a radiator hot, it testifies that the thermostat is opened and the cooling liquid passes through a radiator. In this case it is necessary to address on servicing deport for search and elimination of the reason of an overheat of the engine.
Check with thermostat removal
Remove the thermostat.

Preliminary to check up working capacity of the thermostat it is possible so: suspend it on a thread in the glass vessel filled with water, and heat up water to boiling (
fig. 4.2). At boiling of water the thermostat valve should open. Otherwise replace it.
The temperature of opening of the valve of the thermostat is written on its case.
The thermostat, which valve is not closed at water cooling, also is faulty and is subject to replacement.
Thermostat replacement
Switch off ignition and disconnect a wire of "weight" from the storage battery.
Merge cooling liquid from a radiator. Disconnect a hose of a radiator from a thermostat casing.

On cars of release till 2001 remove a casing of the thermostat from a back part of the case of the water pump (
fig. 4.3). For simplification of access to the bottom nut of fastening of a casing of the thermostat it is recommended to remove the oil filter.

On cars of release since 2001 remove the generator and turn away a nut of fastening of a casing of the thermostat (
fig. 4.4).
Remove the thermostat, having remembered position in which it has been established.
Establish on the thermostat a new sealing ring and clear привалочные surfaces of a casing of the thermostat.
On cars of release till 2001 establish the thermostat in a thermostat casing. Then establish a casing with the thermostat in a back part of the water pump so that the adjusting pin settled down from above.

On cars of release since 2001 establish the thermostat in a nest of the block of cylinders so that the adjusting pin settled down from above (
fig. 4.5).
Nuts fix a casing of the thermostat and establish other elements which have been removed earlier.
Fill in cooling liquid.
Get the engine and be convinced of absence of leaks.
